About the Role

Bourke & District Children’s Services operates Childcare, Preschool and Mobile playgroup and are currently recruiting for a nurse, this is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, vibrant and dynamic team. 

The Nurse will lead BDCS Health functions, by providing safe, compassionate care in Early Childhood across our services, to maintain, improve, and promote the optimal health and wellbeing of children aged 0-5 years and their families.


Working in collaboration with families and the multidisciplinary health care team the nurse will achieve safe quality care outcomes that meet the goals of the child and family.

The nurse will actively promote, protect, and support breastfeeding and facilitate evidence-based groups delivered to meet child health, development, and parenting support needs of families within the BDCS community.


The role will support Connected Beginnings, the Maranguka Principles, and the Safe Smart Strong Strategy.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supporting BDCS services and educators providing a lead on health

  • Review and lead Health related policies

  • Supporting and promoting breastfeeding

  • Supporting management with health-related notifications and processes.

  • Collating and distribution factsheets, resources and information for parents, educators, and the community

  • Providing care navigation for families

  • Supporting wellbeing for children, families, and staff

  • Building close connections with Community Health, particularly the AIMS program, Child and Family Health Nurse, and Midwifery programs; with the Bourke Aboriginal Corporation Health Service;

  • Building close connections with Allied health providers, and NDIS providers

  • Leading health promotions

  • Supporting families with holistic care for children

  • Working closely with family support agencies

  • Oversight of nutritional programs

  • Support of telecare, OT & Speech programs

  • Supports families with home visits and parenting skills

  • Support data collection for Maranguka and Connected Beginnings

  • Other duties as directed

• Remuneration: Commensurate with skills and Experience ($65,000 - $82,000)

Selection Criteria

  • National Criminal Record Check

  • Working with Children Check

  • Current unrestricted nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Willingness to undertake Cert III or Diploma qualification in Early Childhood Education & Care

  • Class C Drivers Licence and willingness to travel for work purposes

  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across Early Childhood and multi-disciplinary teams and build relationships with stakeholders.

  • Think critically to improve practice, with a willingness to provide leadership and embrace change.
